Communication, Experience, Results
John has earned a reputation for greater accessibility by phone, email and social media. His Ward 6 blog at krolward6.com allows constituents to stay up-to-date on the latest in the city and in Ward 6
With John’s advocacy and cooperation with city staff and constituents, more than two-dozen road projects and other significant infrastructure improvements were completed in the past four years. This is more work than had been done in the previous decade in Ward 6.
There are few things that impact our own investment in Pittsfield more than the quality of public education. John has been a tireless advocate for our schools to better prepare our children for the 21st Century economy and to enhance the value of our own investments in Pittsfield.
Lowered Taxes on Businesses
John spearheaded the winning effort to reduce commercial property taxes in Pittsfield. Earning the support of a majority of his council colleagues, John led the charge and the City Council reduced the Mayor’s proposed commercial tax rate for the first time in recent memory.
In the face of strong opposition from the administration and the Board of Health, Councilor Krol lobbied enough support to establish a common sense mosquito control program in Pittsfield. He followed through to ensure stronger protocols and communication for the program.
Our Greener Community
As the founding chairman of the Pittsfield Green Commission, John led the effort to make Pittsfield one of the state’s first official Green Communities. This designation has led to hundreds of thousands of state dollars for efficiency upgrades to city buildings, saving more taxpayer dollars each year.
West Side Neighborhood
John has been an active and engaged member of the West Side Initiative, advocating for the initiative on a variety of issues. This has included work to develop a long-term plan to maintain the West Side Garden Project, safety improvements like the new traffic signal near Conte Community School and enhanced code enforcement to support those investing in the neighborhood.
Enhanced Code Enforcement
John strongly supported a more effective code enforcement ordinance, helping those who invest in their homes and their neighborhood by targeting problem properties that are a source of health concerns and crime.
Youth, Energy, Family
John and his wife, Allison, represent a younger generation of those who are investing in this community because of what Pittsfield is today and its potential for the future. Downtown revitalization, new energy, and new investment have drawn more young families and young professionals to Pittsfield. Supporting this new energy is important, both for our tax base and for economic development throughout the Berkshires.
